This can be tricky for sure! You need to find a job that knows you and is willing to work with you. If you can’t find a job like this, then you create it yourself!! This is what I have done!
I highly recommend that you talk with your job and say “I want to take this trip this year, how can we make it happen?” Most jobs that care about their employees will make it work!
Now if you are wanting to travel more than 2-4 weeks in a year, then you probably should look at creating your own income options.

The easiest way to accomplish this, is to work with established companies already. I recommend the following that I have worked with and I think they do a pretty good job. Loop Abroad and Worldwide Vets.
The other option is to find it yourself. I have a whole blog on how to do this, so check that out.

I have worked for both corporate and private practices. They each have their pros and cons. I have made a whole pros and cons list you can check out on my blog page!

Relief isn’t for everyone. I definitely found myself in a place where I loved to be when I was doing relief. I recommend it, but if you like stability and knowing where everything is in a clinic, then it probably isn’t for your. Or you need to relief at the same practices on a regular basis.
Check out my blog post on the pros and cons of relief work.

You can do as little or as much relief work as you want. Some will keep a regular job and then add in relief, while others do relief full time. If you aren’t going to go the full time route, I would recommend you either relief at 1-2 clinics that you know and stick with, or use a third party company. The third party comes with its own setbacks, but it makes scheduling a bit easier.
If you want to go full time, there are a few other steps you should follow. Check out my post on this topic to give you more info.
