Getting that fail back from any exam isn’t easy to process. Sometimes you know you didn’t put forth the effort, other times you gave all you had and it still wasn’t enough. It hurts no matter the circumstance. How do you battle the mental side of failure and continue to move forward? Occasionally you get right back up, other times it takes a bit. Either way, you need to find the way to move forward.
Happy New Year
It's been forever
I can’t believe how long it’s been. Not gonna lie, life just seriously started going on a speeding train and gets away from you. When you start getting into final year rotations and you are basically working a full time job you come home in the evening and you want to relax, but just have to study for the NAVLE… Not the ideal situation, but something to get through for a few months so you never have to do it again. Which means that everything else took a back burner. The blog, instagram and everything was not high on my priority list because sleep and rest took its place if I’m being honest. This photo is how I spent my time whenever we had a free moment and my brain wasn’t capable of studying or even thinking.
Now that the wicked NAVLE is over and I’m on a small break until finals, I’m able to relax a little and enjoy some of my placements that I’m on! I will of course still be studying since finals are no cake walk, but a small break is warranted. Maybe even go have a seat at the beach for a bit.
As for whats coming, I realise I never published my Africa blog, so that will be coming soon. Also check out the instagram and youtube for hopefully some videos coming your way soon.
Final year!!
Guys it’s been forever since I’ve updated things. I’m working on updating all my adventure pages and working on some videos (fingers crossed they turn out decent) but anyway, sorry for the radio silence!
The past few months have been busy and so exciting! Final year is just as good if not better than I expected. So far I’ve finished my surgical rotation which included diagnostic imaging, emergency and critical care, soft tissue surgery, and orthopaedic surgery. I’ve learned so much and remembered more than I thought I would!! Most of us are al aye worried about not knowing the answers or failing. I’ve realised that actually we remember way more than we think and we are solidifying other things with practice and connecting to a specific case.
Most people don’t love diagnostic imaging as they find it boring. I, on the other hand really enjoyed this block. I have to admit that my knowledge of equine radiology is negative 100, but after a day there I think I’m up to only negative 10 now… maybe a 0 at a push. If you can name all the structures in the photo below, you are doing just as good as me. Lol. I’m considering exploring diagnostic imaging more and possibly specialise.
There are so many other things that I have learned on final year. I’m hoping to make a video from each week with the important takeaways that I think are important. Keep tuned for that and more blog posts from final year. I promise to start being better in my posting timetable.
As always if you have questions send them my way!!

Juggling Vet school
What is there to juggle??
For those of you who don’t know, vet school is difficult. It requires time and effort to keep on top of all the material you are required to learn. A question people ask all the time is “Do you have time for a life outside of vet school???” The answer is “YES”, but it requires good time management and a self knowledge. Here are some tips on how I manage it all.
It's the middle of January?!?!?
How is it already half way through January??? I don’t understand!!! The time is just flying by and I realise that I am falling behind on the things that I enjoy the most. I really do love writing this blog as it serves as a journal for me. Looking back at all my past posts has really shown me how I have grown and changed through vet school. So I don’t want to give this up. With all the other things demanding my time, I sometimes push this to the back burner. I’ve recommitted, which lets be honest is what New Years are all about.
Merry Christmas
Wahoo!!! Christmas is here!! I can’t believe how fast this year has gone. Some parts of it seemed to drag on forever, while other weeks seemed to just go in the blink of an eye. I am halfway through my third/fourth year of vet school. I will graduate soon and I just don’t understand how this happened so fast. (But lets be honest, I’m so excited for the day when I am done completely)
Scotland winter hacks for students-101
Once November hits in Scotland, that means- “the darkness is coming”. We still do the time change, but the darkness starts to set it around 4:30 and is totally dark by 5 these days. In my opinion, from now until end of January is some of the hardest times to live in Scotland. (I do realise that Scotland has it better off than other countries that are more north. I don’t liver there full time probably for this reason) Here are my top 5 hacks to survive the winter.
Christmas vacation here I come!
The past week and a half have been full of library time and hitting the books. Luckily for me they give us a whole week off before exams so we can focus on studying the material. With Vet schools here, you only take one big exam a semester. You have a small midterm, but really you have one exam at the end. It is worth your whole grade, and it is a pass fail system. The past week of study has been rough. There were some times when I just procrastinated and looked for other things to do… As you can see I was very good at staying on task.
I am Thankful
Exams-Not my cup of tea
Down to London and back again
First few weeks back
So with moving the blog and getting back into the swing of Uni, my blogs have been less frequent than usual. But don’t you worry. Pretty soon I won’t have a good excuse for them being late except that I am just behind. Which no matter how hard I try happens at least once every few months. Sometimes you just gotta embrace your inner procrastinator.
Farm Animal and VPH
All I have to say is thank goodness for good professors. We have some lectures that could be really boring and dry. Talking about the legal side of things and the legislature isn’t my idea of fun, but our professor from Italy keeps us smiling the whole way through. And of course our professor who makes himself comfortable by taking his shoes and socks off and wanders around the front of the room is also very entertaining. Or when your professor stands on a table in the front, you know you should pay attention. I wish I could take a clip of our lectures and just give you a taste of what it is like. Never a dull moment with the large animal crew.

Summer Fun
This summer has been so busy and is passing so fast I feel like I just can't keep up!! Have you ever felt like it was just Monday and yet another weekend is rolling around? Don't get me wrong, I love the weekends, but my time of being home with family is quickly coming to an end. How is that even possible? I guess when you are having fun, time really does just fly.
