Happy New Year

I can’t believe its 2020, and I will be graduating soon!!! In just 6 short months I’ll be a full fledged Veterinarian with a full time job somewhere in the world. I’ll have to learn to be a real adult and figure out things like a car payment, insurance, and who knows what else. The “real life adulting” is about to begin and I’m not sure how I’m feeling about it. So in the sense of new things happening and the New Year upon us, it definitely means I need to set some goals. I’ve realised through the years that if I actually want to keep the goals I make, I need to pick a few meaningful things and be specific. (pretty sure most people know this but it took me awhile to figure out) So here are some goals for 2020.

Try something new every month that gets me out of my comfort zone.

I have to give credit for this one to my cousin. She inspires me to be a better person and to do better. She posted recently about her goals and how she has the tradition for the last 3 years to write things down and try something. So I decide to try and follow in her footsteps. This photo is from her post about what her goals have been and are for the year of 2020. I love the idea of getting out of my comfort zone. Growth never happens when you stay where you are comfortable, and I want to grow as a person. This year I’m going to be faced with so many changes, and will definitely be out of my comfort zone even if I’m not looking for it. With graduation upon me and getting a full time job as a vet, I don’t know what could put me more out of my comfort zone. So here is to trying something new to help me grow and continue to be better every day.

Focus on work life balance as I become a “real adult”

As you can tell the graduation and job is high on my list of “Things to think about” right now. I joke with my family that I’m going to become a “real adult” as soon as I graduate and then I’ll have to change my lifestyle to accommodate that. I used to be the epitome of LIVE TO WORK. The good news is, I love my job which is why I like working so much. The bad news is, I work so much I don’t let myself enjoy all the other things I enjoy doing. I feel like I was so focused on work in undergrad and getting to vet school. Being in the UK I have tried really hard to get out more, travel more, and enjoy more activities that I like to do while also being in school. I want to find a good balance between the two when I start my new job. I know I will be tempted to work all the time to make money to live and pay back loans and so forth. But I also don’t want to loose the spirit of travel and adventure that I have let myself enjoy so much. So the goal is to work, and play. Focusing on spending time with family and friends I’ve been away from for long and making new ones. Advancing in my hobbies and maybe making new ones. I’m not exactly sure how this is all going to work out, but I plan to make it a priority.

Some things for me that I have discovered that I love and want to keep in my life are travelling. Even with 2-3 weeks of paid vacation all year, I’m going to figure it out. Even if I take weekend trips or something I’m going to keep going new places. Scuba diving is another one that I hope a landlocked state won’t keep me from. Once I have an income I can finally afford to advance my dive certification. Then there is just the general getting outdoors and being active. I’ve recently tried doing more rock climbing and hiking which I plan to continue.

Become closer to my Saviour Jesus Christ

While I don’t talk much about my religion in this space, its an integral part of who I am. I colours everything I do in life, and for the past year I have not really been putting it at the forefront of my life. For something so important, I don’t give it time. I want to grow in this aspect of my life along with everything else.

For those who are interested in my beliefs feel free to reach out. For those who aren’t, don’t let this part of me keep you from reading all the other content you might enjoy.

Get back into the blog, instagram, and start the vlog I’ve wanted to do for the last year or so.

I know I have mentioned this a lot. The blog has literally fallen the last 6 months. I don’t know where the time went or how it happened. I kept thinking it was just last week since I had posted something, and then before I new it a week turned into weeks and then months. I’d like to blame rotations and having no time, but I managed to fit netflix in there every so often so that must not be the case. I’ve really missed it and I have now recommitted.

The vlog is something I have mentioned a lot. I hoped that by telling people it would force me to do something. The reasons I haven’t done it?- I have no idea what I’m doing as far as editing and filming. It takes double the time to teach yourself as you go along (if not more) and its rather daunting. And second its terrifying to think of being in front of the camera. Its either my outfit is wrong or my hair looks bad or there isn’t enough light to film. Basically I’m scarred and I’ve let it keep me from doing something that I think would be a lot of fun once I got over myself. I’m also worried no one will watch or care about what I’m putting out, and with all the effort that would be sad. But I’ll never know if I don’t try right? Which is where I’ve been for the last year. So I’m taking the leap and working on the first goal I listed above and giving it a go. The worse that can happen is no one watches and I stick with the blog. (At least I keep telling myself that to keep worse images from coming to mind) So if you have any ideas for the vlog or things you want to know, pass them through in the comments or through my social media. I can use all the help I can get.

Hope you all have thought of your 2020 goals and made them achievable. As I looked back at my goals from 2019 I definitely nailed some and failed others, but thats what its all about. Here is hoping that only making 4 right now will help me to achieve them all. If I manage that before the year ends I can add some more. Happy new year everyone and send me any ideas you have for vlogs or blogs you’d love to learn about.!
