Staying in one place for too long just isn’t me. So of course I took a little weekend jaunt to London. This was more of a “Educational” jaunt than a “Just having fun” jaunt, but I enjoyed it nonetheless. Thanks to some funding from IVSA (International Veterinary Student Association) I traveled down to London for a meeting of the minds. Students from all 8 vet schools in the UK and Ireland gathered together. It was amazing that all of us were free on the same weekend and could make it to London.
What is IVSA? It is a club within Vet schools run by students to help unite us as vet schools. As a club we organize exchanges with other vet schools. Last year we went to Warsaw, Poland. They came to Edinburgh for a week and we acted as tour guides around the city, showed them the vet school, and let them stay in our flats. And then they do the same for us a few weeks later when we go there. What more could you want? It makes for a great week where you get to travel for cheap, meet new friends, and see another vet school. It was amazing last year so I decided to get a bit more involved this year and become a senior rep for the Edinburgh club. It was such a great decision. I really enjoyed meeting the other students down in London and learning from them. So many ideas were exchanged.
There are so many ways to get involved in vet school. There are many clubs and societies that you can join and travel, play sport, or learn a new skill. No matter what you want to do besides study, you can find a club that will help you do it. I recommend IVSA. Most vet schools have it, and if they don’t, you get it started. There are so many universities out there that would love to exchange with you!!
