Exams are finally over!
The past week and a half have been full of library time and hitting the books. Luckily for me they give us a whole week off before exams so we can focus on studying the material. With Vet schools here, you only take one big exam a semester. You have a small midterm, but really you have one exam at the end. It is worth your whole grade, and it is a pass fail system. The past week of study has been rough. There were some times when I just procrastinated and looked for other things to do… As you can see I was very good at staying on task. Now I can actually jam out to my Christmas music without the guilt! (But let’s be honest, did I really feel guilts??) And let me tell you I love Christmas music!! The joy of finishing exams is so indescribable, the best word we all use is FREE!! I can’t believe I am one semester closer to being a full veterinarian.
So what do we vet students do when our responsibilities are over???? We go to the Christmas market of course!! Because I am not a natural city dweller, I live further out of the city. This means I’m not near as close to the market as I want to be. The good thing is this saves me money during the Christmas season. I could definitely eat a crepe every day and never get sick of it. And today I did. Fresh strawberries and Nutella sure hit the spot after a rough exam. I highly recommend it. (Warning: Once you taste one, you will want another one). I mean, look at this!! HOW CAN ANYONE SAY NO!!! You have much more self control than I do if you can resist this.
And for those of you who don’t care for crepes, there are many other delicious options to eat while at a Christmas market. There are waffles, chimney cake, Mac and cheese, burgers, fries, and so much more. Not to mention the great drinks to go along with it. I stick to the classic hot chocolate and in Germany there is amazing stuff called “Kinderpunch”. Which translated means “Child-punch” No alcohol and tastes amazing.
Where am I off to for Christmas???
Since we all know I don’t stay put very well, (which I find to be a great trait) I will be off for Christmas vacation. Now that I am “free” I’ll be jumping on a plane on Monday!! Not nearly soon enough. Where will I be for Christmas this year???? Back in the amazing Germany of course!! Monday will be a plane to Dublin where I stay for about 5 hours. You better bet I’m going to check out the Irish Christmas market and see what they have to offer as well!! From Dublin I’ll head to Frankfurt. I’ll stay there for a couple days until going to Belgium for a weekend!
But wait-There is more!!
I now it sounds crazy all the places I’m headed, but for Christmas my Mom and Sister are coming to meet me on my travels!! Since I couldn’t make it home, they decided to come to me. We wills start back in Germany, but then head off to Switzerland to check out what it has to offer us, but not before checking out the Strousburg Christmas market. Basically, I am keeping a running total of markets I’ll be to this year. I think I’m going to hit a high of 5!! I’ll rank them for you on what I found best at each one.
I LOVE Christmas time. There is just something in the air that you can’t not be a part of. Everyone is more kind and seems happier in the month of December. Maybe that is the optimist in me, but I love this time of year. Stay tuned with me on instagram at @adventurous.vet to follow along with the travels this Christmas season!!
